Quinta Brunson gets revenge on Jimmy Kimmel by crashing Monologue to shout ‘stupid’ Emmys bit

At some point he had to say something about it. Jimmy Kimmel managed to become the most controversial part of Monday night’s universally terrifying Emmys for a bit that began with him being dragged “unconscious” onstage by Will Arnett for the Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series award to present ended up getting it pulled on Twitter for staying on stage during it Abbott Elementary School Acceptance Speech by Creator Quinta Brunson.

Rather than address the incident during his monologue on Tuesday, Kimmel waited until Wednesday when Brunson himself was scheduled to be his guest.

The host was more than 10 minutes into his opening monologue when Brunson strode onto the stage with her Emmy to ask him a small favor before she was seated.

“You know, when you win an Emmy, you only have 45 seconds to give an acceptance speech, which isn’t that much time?” she said. “And then you have less time because someone’s doing some stupid comedy that’s going on a little too long.” Along those lines, Brunson told Kimmel that she was “requesting” a little more time on his show to thank all the people to which she did not come on Monday evening.

Immediately after her speech, Brunson was asked what she thought of Kimmel’s presence on stage during her big moment and replied that she didn’t mind that much. “I think at that moment I was just really happy that it was Jimmy up there. I consider him one of the comedy godfathers,” she said, noting that the ABC colleague was an early champion of her show. “I don’t know. Tomorrow I might be mad at him. I’ll be on his show on Wednesday, so I might smack him in the face. I don’t know, we’ll see what happens.”

Brunson’s Emmy-winning co-star Sheryl Lee Ralph was less generous, saying Wednesday that she felt Kimmel disrespected Brunson. “I told him too! To his face!” she added. “And he understood.”

When she finally sat down on the couch next to Kimmel on Wednesday night, no punches were thrown, but she was given an apology. “People were upset, they said I stole the moment from you and maybe I did and I’m very sorry if I did,” he said before correcting himself. “Actually, I’m sorry I did that. And besides, the last thing I ever want to do is upset you because I think so much of you. I think you know that, I hope you know that.”

Brunson, in turn, accepted his apology, saying, “Thanks, that’s nice, but honestly I had a good night.”

Kimmel couldn’t leave it at that, of course. “And I should also say it really was Will Arnett’s fault in the whole thing. He drugged me and he dragged me out of there and I was passed out,” he said, adding, “Fuck Bojack and that rider he rode in!”
