surveillance 2 will still receive some balance changes before Season 2 blizzard originally said.
Earlier this month, Blizzard informed us that we would not see any hero changes until Season 2. Well, that’s no longer true, as a blog post by community manager AndyB on the Overwatch forums told us that we would see changes coming as early as November 15th to a number of characters, including D.Va, Genji, Sombra, and Kiriko probably the best tank in the game right now, Zarya.
Unfortunately for the Genji mesh, you’ll only see a few nerfs. His max ammo is reduced from 30 to 24 and his shuriken damage is reduced from 29 to 27. These changes are intended to try to make Genji more consistent with other flank damage heroes, as he is a character who benefited greatly from movement up to 5v5.
Sombra has also received a trio of nerfs, such as the lock duration of her Hack ability reduced from 1.75 seconds to 1.5 seconds. Hacked enemies are also “no longer valid targets for hacking for the duration of the effect” and the hacked damage multiplier has been reduced in large part from 40% to 25%.
D.Va actually received a buff, with the spread of her Fusion Cannons increasing from 3.5 to 3.75, although she also underwent a nerf of sorts, reducing her booster’s impact damage from 25 to 15.
Kiriko also received a nerf, reducing the invulnerability duration of her quick steps from 0.4 seconds to 0.25 seconds. A developer comment explains that “this invulnerability window is primarily intended to avoid dying instantly to something invisible after teleporting through walls, but it ended up being a bit too long and leading to some confusion when performing.” Kiriko fired.”
Last but not least, Zarya also received a few nerfs, one where her barrier duration was reduced from 2.5 seconds to 2 seconds and her barrier cooldown was increased from 10 seconds to 11 seconds. Interestingly, the developer commentary notes that early player opinion believed Zarya to be one of the weakest solo tanks in 5v5 rotation, but “her high damage potential and barrier availability proved extremely effective.”
This made the tank’s opponents feel that Zarya “has very limited vulnerability windows that are difficult to deal with when combined with her increasing damage potential,” which is why the changes were made.
The blog post also notes that while these changes are scheduled to roll out on November 15, they are still subject to change, so keep an eye out for updates as things change.
